Scholarship Program |
(Approved by the Board of Directors, September 13, 2004)
The mission of the Salina Soccer Club is to provide opportunities for high school and younger youth of the Saline County area to participate in organized, competitive soccer. The SSC is also committed to working to provide quality soccer opportunities to all the youth of Salina, regardless of race, gender, creed, or income.
In an effort to achieve our mission, and as a result of parent/coach input during the 2003 Annual Meeting, the SSC is pleased to announce the development of the Salina Soccer Club Scholarship Program and Fund. The goal is to assist young soccer players who might otherwise be denied an opportunity to grow and develop in the sport of soccer due to a lack of financial resources.
Funds donated to the SSC Scholarship Fund will be used only to cover scholarship fees for club members. Money from the Scholarship Fund may not be used for any other purpose.
Scholarship funds
may be used to offset a player's costs associated with carding, club
and league fees, coaching fees, as well as tournament and uniform
costs. Scholarships will be granted in the following increments, based
on several factors including the availability of scholarship funds, the
level of need displayed, and the completeness of the player's
Application for Scholarship. No assistance can be provided at this
time for other expenses, such as equipment (other than uniforms) and
travel costs. These costs will remain the player's/team's
responsibility.
| 1/4 Scholarship | $50 |
| 1/2 Scholarship | $100 |
| 3/4 Scholarship | $150 |
| Full Scholarship | $200 |
A “Scholarship Committee,” consisting of a minimum of two members of the Board of Directors, shall be designated and maintained.
Prospective players whose parent/guardian completes a written Application for Scholarship at the time of team/player placement evaluations will have their registration fees temporarily “waived.” Once the player is placed on a team, the coach/manager will be asked to speak with the parent about the level of financial assistance needed. The coach/manager will then complete the Application and return it to the SSC Scholarship Committee to begin the formal consideration process.
The awarding of scholarships by the SSC will be based upon:
the availability of funds
receipt of a written application by the SSC Scholarship Fund Committee
application review and selection by the Scholarship Fund Committee
approval by the Board of Directors of the SSC
Decisions regarding all Applications for Scholarships will be communicated by a member of the Scholarship Committee to the coach/manager of the player’s team. The coach/manager will be responsible for communicating the decision to grant or deny the scholarship request, and the amount of the scholarship approved, to the player’s parent/guardian.
If an Application for Scholarship is approved, the SSC Treasurer will submit a check in the amount of the scholarship to the player’s coach/manager. The coach/manager will then be responsible for paying the covered fees for the player.
Scholarship application materials will be available to the SSC Board of Directors and the player’s coach/manager only. Application information will otherwise remain strictly confidential.
